We were always very drawn to the idea of becoming more mindful and present as we tried traditional meditative practices that often times felt quite rigid and intimidating. Although we understood the value of stillness-based practices we still struggled with meditation as we had trouble finding the focus, time, and space needed to partake in simple and yet confoundingly unattainable exercises.

As we trialed along through our mindful practices, we felt the need to find a guided intimate mindfulness space that we could access any time and anywhere. We tried apps and the like but to our demise the digital component of these meditations felt obstructive in a time when we were hungry to have a small, yet essential analogue moment for ourselves.

So we began to use beads and to sit in silence during the commute or during lunch break but then that started to draw too much unnecessary attention to a supposedly introspective meditation practice.

Then coloring came along and we started to draw mountains, and spirals, and stars, so we could trace our breath, so we could count our mantras and so we could focus on our intention and on our exploration of the self. And that decidedly helped, to have that break between the breaks to count the breath with focus, dynamism, and intimacy.

So the coloring method was born, to create that space we were looking for; because the present moment felt as such a beautiful place to be and there was this one, easygoing, breathable, expansive, inner-child tool that worked so well in getting us closer to to that beautiful present we were longing for.

In our cozy design studio based in Amsterdam we have approached mindfulness in fresh new way by reviving and refreshing traditional spiritual practices into concise meditations that fit into a pocket book format. Through the creation 100+ books that revisit principles of elegance and abstract design we have formulated discreet and inviting publications that hold the space for you to dynamically meditate. The selected books of the Coloring Method have been crafted with love and intention so you can use this tool of focus + breath + coloring whenever you need to find a soothing break from the steady flow of life.
